One of the things I have done right in my last three relationships was to go for guys who are attracted to my body type, the way it currently is, and not how I used to look, or hope to look one day soon.
I’m curvaceous. I always will be. I want to be. Yes, I want the curve to be a bit less dramatic *smile* but I will always be a healthy woman, a country-curved girl.
After reading The Body Politic by Abra Fortune Chernik, a short document relaying some powerful thoughts about women’s bodies, a piece of understanding about the quality of men I have been choosing has firmly settled into place.
Men who love powerful women, who are secure enough to have a leader by their side instead of behind them, tend to love healthy, if not full-figured women. These are men who don’t mind a size 6, but would prefer at least a size 9, and thinks anyone below a 4 needs a meal.
For speculation about why this is true, you’ll have to see the document for specifics. But in thinking about it, I look at how many of my male friends who are “big-boned” or “husky” don’t see it as a hinderance to getting a lady to be with. Why do women?
And furthermore, on a physical level, it’s curious that we look to have females literally starve their bodies in order to take up less space. And on the physical plane of reality, the amount of space you occupy and/or control has a correlation to your power.
Once you read the document and see how some of these parallels are drawn… it lends great clarity to the issue. As a womanist I believe in survivors rather than victims.
Now, I haven’t always been far from this world. Being from an African culture, I constantly come across men who love women of every size, and think we’re all beautiful as long as we have some type of hour glass happening. And I’m so glad I’m back to my roots.
Today, someone on Tumblr said reading this changed how they looked at women forever. For me, it changed the way I look at men. Feel free to share your thoughts if you’ve read it. If not, there’s a link below you can right-click to see it. It’s a quick read, take a look.
