So I have no idea what this site is going to be about.
Not a one.
Just about the only thing that I’ve decided is to break every possible rule I can regarding blogging.
I’m not going to have a particular topic.
At the moment I think it will mostly be about my life working online and things related to it.
But the more I think about it, this blog may just be a collection of my thoughts in general.
Which means the topic will be me.
Which is about as scattered and broad as it gets. Because let’s face it. I’m a bit of a wacko. I’m not even being sarcastic right now…
Anyway, other rules it will break include punctuation, politeness, political correctness, getting too personal, taking things too personally, possible people-bashing, talking about problem clients and companies I hate in public, and general reputation-ruiners like that.
Some days I’ll be all sunshine and positivity, probably most days.
But when I’m feeling dark I’m not going to hide that either.
More rule-breaking:
I’m barely going to promote the site at first.
This site will only get the lightest search engine optimization.
I’ll be adding advertising willy-nilly.
I’m going to have a blog roll and I’m do-following all the people on it, as well as commenters.
I’m not going to make my archives unspiderable or worry about duplicate content.
I will change the theme at will.
I’ll be turning comment moderation on and off and some posts won’t even have comment capabilities.
In other words, when this blog gets popular, remember that this is probably the absolute worst example, outwardly, to follow about how to make a blog popular. Since it’s not a business to business blog, or really, a business blog at all, the model that makes it successful has absolutely nothing to do with what is on this site.
Website promotion was my business at the time I started this blog, and while I’ll still keep my clients, in the future, membership sites, blogs and other content sites will be my business going forward. For those of you who don’t know that when you get here, this is the reason I feel it is necessary to state what should be obvious – my personal blog is the wrong place to learn my secrets.
So what rule am I going to follow?
The only one I think that really counts.
I will be enter-fucking-taining.
To people who think like me, this blog is going to be captivating, engaging, and will do its best to serve you, the audience, even as I am being completely self-centered.
To people who don’t think like me, you’ll be twice as likely to come here to find out what, in your view, will be absolutely wrong, incorrect, useless craziness that you can’t wait to comment on and say how wrong I am.
Fair warning: Unless debate is healthy and respectful, I consider other people’s views a waste of my time. :) If I simply answer your criticism with an HL Mencken quote, you can’t say I didn’t warn you.
I now sit in the smallest room of my house with your letter of criticism before me. Soon it will be behind me.
paraphrased HL Mencken, who would be my baby daddy if he was alive today
Oh. And if you don’t like words like fuck, get the fuck out of here dood.
